are the ergosun solar roof tiles available in my country?
DO I HAVE TO HAVE MY WHOLE ROOF FITTED WITH THE SOLAR TILES?
The system is deigned to be scalable and can be adapted to fit the particular size and shape of the roof. The number of Ergosun solar roof tiles required completely depends on the size of solar system specified to meet the energy needs of the property, it really is up to you. The remainder of the roof would then be fitted with the matching standard tiles to create the impressive seamless finish. Due to the nature of the tiled system there is the opportunity to cover up to 98% of the roof with Ergosun tiles. The Ergosun solar roof tile system is the only system in the world that can run the whole height of the roof, from the ridge tiles all the way down to the guttering.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MY ROOF TO provide A QUOTE?
The main details required are the roof’s dimensions, pitch angle, orientation and layout. In order to produce the bespoke solar array layout diagram specific to the roof we require detailed architectural drawings to be submitted with each order. The system cannot be designed until we have received these plans.
CAN IT BE FITTED ON FLAT ROOFS?
The tiles can only be fitted on sloped roofs. The minimum and maximum pitch range depends on the choice of base tile selected and the manufacturer’s specifications. Typically this is between 22.5 and 60 degrees.
CAN ERGOSUN SOLAR ROOF TILES BE USED TO RE-ROOF AN EXISTING HOME?
Yes. However this may depend on the type of roof you are replacing. Each roof has unique characteristics such as orientation, slope, shading, truss capacity, etc. Contact us for a quick roof suitability assessment.
CAN I USE ANY TILE AS THE BASE TILE?
There are a wide range of popular brands, styles and colours available to choose your base tile from, as shown on the tile options page. To get the most out of your system, we only use large format flat interlocking tiles.
CAN I EXPAND THE SYSTEM AT A LATER DATE?
Providing there is sufficient roof space available, additional Ergosun tiles can be added to the roof to expand the system in increments of 15W per tile in order to cater for any increase in the property’s energy requirements.
HOW EFFICIENT ARE THE SOLAR TILES COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL GLASS SOLAR PANELS?
The Ergosun solar roof tiles are produced using the highest quality monocrystaline silicon cells, meaning that they are highly efficient, operating at 17% cell efficiency, which places the tiles in the upper performance bracket of available solar rooftop solutions.
HOW MANY ERGOSUN SOLAR TILES WILL I NEED TO POWER MY HOME?
This is entirely dependant on the energy requirements of the home and the location and orientation of the property. Typically, an average sized 3/4 person family home in the south of England will require a 4kW system. This equates to 267 Ergosun solar roof tiles, which needs 25.7m2 of roof space and would be expected to produce approximately 3,400kWh of electricity each year.
IS THE ERGOSUN SOLAR ROOF TILE SYSTEM COMPATIBLE WITH A BATTERY STORAGE SYSTEM?
Yes, the system is fully compatible with energy management and battery storage systems, such as the Tesla Powerwall. In fact, incorporating such a battery system will allow the property to benefit even further by enhancing the overall efficiency of the system and providing off peak power availability.
CAN I MONITOR THE PERFORMANCE OF MY SOLAR ROOF TILE SYSTEM?
There are a few ways to monitor the systems performance. Output information can be viewed on the inverter’s built in display panel. Alternatively you can log into the Solar.Web online portal or smartphone app for real-time and historical performance data.
WHAT IS ONE OF THE ERGOSUN SOLAR ROOF TILES IS DAMAGED OR COVERED WITH DEBRIS?
Ergosun solar roof tiles operate independently from each other, so, if one tile is damaged or covered with leaves or other debris, it will not affect the solar production capability of the rest of the system. In such a circumstance, albeit unlikely, any damaged tile can be easily replaced. Normally this can be done with minimal system downtime and virtually no loss of energy production.
WILL IT WORK ON CLOUDY DAYS?
The system does not require direct sunlight to generate electricity and is designed to operate efficiently in low light conditions, although clear sunny days are the optimum conditions to maximise the output potential of the system.
HOW DO I CLEAN THE SOLAR TILES?
While the solar tiles are essentially self cleaning, aided by steeper pitches and with a smooth matte finish to reduce the potential for lichen build up, for areas deemed especially susceptible to airborne debris, it is recommended that the roof surface be pressure washed periodically to remove any debris and eliminate tile coverage. Detailed cleaning instructions can be found in the system operating guide.
HOW WELL DO THE SOLAR TILES RESIST WEATHERING?
The Ergosun solar tiles have been coated in a specially adapted polymer layer, specifically designed to enhance its anti weathering properties and make them incredibly resistant. The material is similar to that used to cover the Eden Project domes, which has been proven to be highly resistant over its lifespan to date.
I LIVE NEAR THE SEA, HOW WELL DO THE SOLAR TILES perform in COASTAL LOCATIONS?
In coastal locations, we recommend incorporating one of our denser tiles to reduce tile chattering effect often associated with wind uplift concerns. As part of the rigorous testing processes conducted, to ensure suitability in a wide range of climates and environments including coastal locations, the tiles were Salt Mist Marine Tested in Egypt where the water saline content is highest.
WHAT ARE THE SYSTEM WARRANTY DETAILS?
While it is highly unlikely that you would experience any performance issues with your Ergosun solar roof tile system, for peace of mind we do provide; A 10 year product warranty which covers any faults or defects with the tiles, connection box, PV wires or connectors. A 12 year peak power warranty in the event that the system were to exhibit a power output of less than 90% of the minimum peak power at STC (Standard Test Conditions) A 25 year peak power warranty in the event that the system were to exhibit a power output of less than 80% of the minimum peak power at STC. Full details of the warranty policy can be viewed in the Info section.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO INSTALL?
This ultimately depends on the size of the solar system selected and the particular roof on which it is to be fitted. In most cases our system takes the same time to fit as conventional roof tiles would.
CAN I USE MY OWN ROOFING CONTACTOR TO FIT THE TILES?
Yes. Providing that they are fully NFRC and MCS accredited. We can arrange for one of our Solarmass technicians to oversee the installation at no extra cost.
CAN I HAVE THE SOLAR TILES ON MY GARAGE OR OUTHOUSE AND CONNECT IT TO MY HOME?
Absolutely, this is a common scenario and would simply involve cables being run between the outbuilding and the main house to connect the systems.
DO THE TILES HAVE TO BE FITTED ON A SOUTH FACING ROOF?
Positioning any solar system on a south facing elevation is always recommended as optimum in terms of maximising the systems solar energy harnessing capacity. However, the Ergosun solar tiles do not require direct sunlight to generate electricity, meaning other elevations and orientations can be incorporated. This is due to the high efficiency of the solar modules we use and their ability to operate in low light conditions.
I HAVE SLATE TILES FITTED ON ONE SIDE OF MY ROOF COULD I HAVE THE ERGOSUN SOLAR TILES ON THE OTHER SIDE?
Absolutely! While there isn’t a specifically slate based tile option available, we do have a wide range of styles, profiles and colours available, so you can match the choice of Ergosun solar tile to the appearance of your slates and create an impressive, aesthetic finish.
CAN I CHANGE THE COLOUR OF TILE I WOULD LIKE AFTER I’VE PLACED AN ORDER?
While we always do our best to accommodate all customer requirements throughout the process, due to the bespoke nature of each system, once confirmed it will not be possible to amend an order. We therefore ask that you ensure that you are happy with your selected system specifications before placing an order with us.
