What is Ergosun?

Ergosun solar roof tiles consist of a lightweight, ultra-thin yet extremely durable solar membrane that is laser cut and sized to match the dimensions of the specified roof tile. The cell then undergoes a unique bonding process where our specially adapted silicon gel adhesive is used to mount the cells to a range of popular flat interlocking concrete roof tiles.

As part of our standard quality control procedure, all the solar tiles are individually checked before leaving our manufacturing facility.

How does it work?

Fitted to the roof in exactly the same way as a traditional roof tile by using roofing nails to attach the tiles to the standard battens. On the underside of the tile, our unique wiring system allows the tiles to be directly connected to each other in series to form the basis of your bespoke solar tile solution. Our wiring system has been designed so that all connections are made above the level of the waterproof membrane to ensure that, unlike conventional glass panel systems, there is no need to penetrate the roof’s structure or compromise the integrity of the roofs waterproofing measures. To further reduce cabling concerns, once connected in rows on the roof, combiner wires are used to ensure that only two wires are required to run directly into the inverter.

System Capacity

System Capacity

As the only system in the world that can run all the way from the ridge tiles down to the guttering and the full width of the roof, we have the potential to cover 98% of the available surface area. This, when coupled with our high output efficiency, allows us to generate more power per sq m than alternative systems and therefore maximise the overall capacity of the roof.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing

By completing all aspects of the solar tile assembly within our manufacturing facility we are able to ensure continuous improvement of manufacturing quality assurance processes. We also have full control over the whole supply chain, though sourcing components from carefully appointed suppliers who are continuously audited. The nature of our processes results in the Ergosun solar roof tiles having a carbon footprint which is 136 times less than that of conventional solar panels. In addition the thin, lightweight nature of the solar cells allows us to reduce the transportation associated carbon footprint by 75%.

Performance & Weathering

Performance & Weathering

By solely using high quality components during assembly and by subjecting the tiles to all the required rigorous industry testing processes at the KIWA international laboratories, the solar roof tiles are able to provide over 25 years of clean, reliable energy for the home. To improve weathering resistance, the tiles are protected by a highly durable polymer layer.

VIEW TILE OPTIONS

  • GLASS SOLAR PANELS

    Performs no architectural function

Penetrates the roof’s waterproof membrane, potentially causing leaks

Glass surface reflects light causing glare

Potential to deter prospective home buyers due to visual impact and affect on kerb appeal

Limited layout options can reduce system capacity

Fitted separately to the actual roofing process significantly increases installation, material and labour costs

Requires many additional attachments as part of the panels design and fitting, such as brackets or framework

Places heavy load onto roof structure

    Periodic maintenance often required
  • ERGOSUN SOLAR TILES

Fully integrated as a key part of the building’s roof fabric (BIPV)

Does not penetrate the roof’s waterproof membrane at all

Matte surface absorbs light and minimises glare

An energy efficient asset without any visual impact offering a unique selling point

Revolutionary design maimises flexibility and roof capacity

By fitting the tile and solar at the same time with one material, installation, materials and labour costs are reduced

No additional flashings, brackets, frames, fixings or fittings, just a standard roof tile nail

Lightweight system adding less than 6kg/m²

Minimal maintenance due to the overall system design
